Active DISPUTE

Granite city police alleged that an individual at a property I owned had committed a felony, see: “Eviction notice“.

As we oftentimes find, however, there are two sides to the story, and although I am but a landlord, not a police detective, I investigated the situation myself, and here is what my cursory investigation revealed:

A vehicle containing at least two people had followed the accused son’s mother to her home, my property and where the incident allegedly occurred. Before the mother could get to the front door, an individual stepped out of the vehicle, and began to threaten her.

The police were called, however, by the time Granite city police arrived the incident was over and the assailants were gone.

It is my understanding that the son explained to the police that he was inside the house when he heard his mother screaming for the assailants to leave. The son then then took a gun and stepped onto the front porch, where he told the assailants to leave his mother alone. Presumably upon noticing the firearm, they promptly complied.

The mother knew the name of one of the individuals, which she gave to police along with the description of their car.

Granite city police proceeded to handcuff and arrest her son for “AGGRAVATED UNLAWFUL USE OF A WEAPON”. The police later sent the son’s father, who was not at the property when the incident occurred, a letter stating that he and his family were found to be in violation of crime free law.

The police also sent a notice to me, dated 3-27-19, stating that I had 15 days to evict the entire family, or I would be found to be in violation of crime-free law which would entail the revocation of my business license (if I had one).
